Around the start of the year, we all come to notice the Grammys. This year marked the 60th anniversary of the event. Now comes the question, what is the Grammys? For a simple answer, the Grammys is an event to recognize achievement in the music industry, hosted by The Recording Academy. In order to recognize every genre and award more musicians, there are over 52 awards given out during the span of the night.

For this year’s Grammys, many artists were given awards, though there are a few more noticeable than others. To start off in the night, Bruno Mars won a total of seven awards, all for either his album 24K Magic or his song “That’s What I Like.” Another win others have seemed happy about went to the soundtrack for Moana, specifically for the track “How Far I’ll Go.”

In addition to awards, there were good moments for performances. The first example for good moments was Kendrick Lamar’s performance to kick off the event. Mixed with great choreography and cameos of Dave Chappelle, U2’s Bono, and The Edge, this performance did a great job at shining a light on police brutality and racial tensions. Two hours into the night, Kesha’s performance of her song “Praying,” inspired by her accusations against Dr. Luke, in recognition of the #MeToo movement marked another moving performance.

Still, we cannot have the good without the bad, so we can also include the backlash from fans as Ed Sheeran didn’t even show up for his awards, one being Best Pop Performance. Unfortunately, ratings this year were the lowest they have been have since 2009.
